Has your splice efficiency been dropping? it may be due to cold rolls.
Once your roll's core temperature drops below 59 degrees F (15 degrees C), splice efficiency can decrease rapidly. Splicing efficiency can also drop well below 50 percent when paper temperature at the core approaches 32 degrees F (0 degrees C).
MEGTEC recommends that you store your paper rolls in a warm atmosphere and plan ahead to bring rolls into the press room as soon as possible to allow roll temperature to rise to an acceptable level.
Removing packing or protective cardboard will also help to allow rolls to warm to room temperature.
There are no "magic" splicing products or service techniques that will work consistently to correct this problem, since the adhesive in splicing tape is water based (tape does not stick to an ice cube), causing missed splices and ultimately, lost production.
There are core heaters available that can help to increase the temperature of the paper roll during staging or even while in the splicer. Naturally, all heaters need to be used with caution within their surroundings.
MEGTEC offers a variety of roll core heaters to help increase splice efficiency due to cold rolls.
